The purpose of Lime is to improve the soil pH.
Soil pH is important to your lawn care plan because the grass plant thrives when soil pH is neutral.
Lime is an organic soil amendment made from ground limestone rock, which naturally contains calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. When lime is added to soil, these compounds work to increase the soil's pH, making soil less acidic and more alkaline. Even though lime includes calcium and magnesium, which are essential nutrients for healthy plant growth, it's not a substitute for fertilizer. Lime's primary role is to alter soil pH and offset soil acidity, which can improve the availability of plant nutrients.
Most soils in our area are acidic (low pH) for numerous reasons...
1. Natural rainfall pH is around 5.5 which lowers our soil pH. Turf grass thrives in a soil pH of 6.5 - 7.0
2. Leaves in the Fall that lay on the ground are very acidic and as they break down into our soil it lowers the soil pH.
3. Most of the soils in our area are naturally acidic.
Lime is all Organic and is completely safe for pets and kids. When applied to your lawn it helps combat these issues and reverses the negative affects to turfgrass.
